Oh and of course Karneval! Karneval is possibly the strangest and craziest of Germany’s strange and crazy traditions. It’s something sort of comparable to North American Halloween in the way that people dress up and go in public, only very Europeanified thus it involves a lot more drinking.

Essentially there are huge parades in the streets of large cities located in Nordrhein Westfalen (we celebrated in the ex-capital of Germany, Bonn), where a variety of things are ferociously hucked at you from people dressed up in floats. Now one would think that these said hucked things would be nice pleasantries, such as candy and chocolate, and although candy and chocolate was indeed present in abundance, the fun did not stop there. Noteworthy alongside the reign of sweets amassed was beer, sponges (?), klopfers (fun german shots), panties (??), an entire bottle of champagne, and a leek (????????)

All in all, Karneval was an odd but unforgettably fun time. Alaaf!!!
